I’m Jeff Serowik. I’ve loved, played, studied and coached hockey my entire life. I was drafted while playing for a New England Prep School by the Toronto Maple Leafs and received a Division 1 scholarship to HOCKEY EAST’s Providence College where I played for four years and earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance.
I then went on to play ten years of professional hockey, mostly bouncing around in the minors while logging a few games with Toronto, Chicago, Florida and the Bruins. My greatest honor in the minors was winning the Eddie Shore Award for the best defenseman in the league in 1994-1995 while playing for the Providence Bruins and my record for most goals still stands!
All my hard work in the minors finally paid off in 2000 when I made the Pittsburgh Penguins before my career was cut short when I suffered a career-ending concussion.
During my off seasons, beginning the summer after graduating from college and preparing for my first NHL camp in Toronto, I founded Pro Ambitions Hockey, Inc.
I was hooked immediately. I always loved playing the game but found that my real passion was teaching the game.
I have had the most incredible mentors and coaches throughout my youth, prep, college and professional career and some that were just plain horrible.
I wanted to be one of the great ones such as many of those I was so fortunate to play with and who mentored me including Joel Quenneville, Peter Laviolette, Bruce Cassidy, Joe Sacco, Rick Bennett, Marc Crawford, Mike McShane, Kevin Constantine, Paul MacLean, Bill Armstrong, John Ferguson, Jaromir Jagr, Charlie Corey, Wayne Pecknold and many others.
I began studying the game and writing curriculums and developed my own brand and niche in the hockey development industry called THE BATTLE CAMP which focuses on training in small area battles incorporating a skill, skating and game situational battle in every drill.
After my injury, I decided to take a good chunk of our family savings to grow the company. I trademarked my curriculums and invested in technology, training locations, and hired the best coaches, sports nutritionists, psychologists and strength coaches I could find.
Having built the largest youth hockey camps in the world, I genuinely believe we’ve set the bar in youth sports development but continue to study, learn, create and evolve.
This book is dedicated to all my past and future campers and any athlete who wants to achieve their Pro Ambitions.
