O Captain! My Captain!
Oct 15 Tip: O Captain! My Captain!
- The Captain has a very important role
- It is an honor
- You are a mentor
- I have appointed captains that were NOT the best players on the team
- Some of my captains have not been impactful players on the ice but very impactful players on the team
- The Captain is a role model and a leader
- He or she looks out for the younger kids
- Ray Bourque was and is my favorite player of all time
- I got a phone call in my hotel room really early one morning
- It was Capt Ray
- It was the morning I was called up from The Providence Bruins to The Boston Bruins
- He said, ” Hey Jeff it’s Ray, wanna meet me for breakfast?”
- He took guys out for breakfast or lunch who were called up or new to the team to make them feel comfortable and part of the team
- He was my D partner that night
- In the old GARDEN
- I will never forget it
- Class act
- Deserving of the C on his sweater in every aspect of the word
- My daughter was asked by a captain on one of her teams ” Who are your friends? What is your friend group?” She answered, ” you guys are…”
- That is not a captain, there is nothing nice about that question
- Be a captain on your team whether or not you have The C or A on your jersey
- And someday it will be…
