Authenticity Book a Call With Coach Henry

Book a Call With Coach Henry

Many of you already know him. Coach Henry is our On Ice Director, a retired pro and a professional youth skill development coach. He is a Boston guy with deep roots on the West Coast, heading up our West Coast Camp Swing out of LA. His background is not typical: his dad is a retired Navy SEAL, his mom a retired athletic director, and he has built his own identity as a serious youth development coach.

That combination of discipline and care shows up in how he works with players. He does not just run drills. He watches, he listens, and he figures out what a player actually needs to move forward. Coach Henry is a pleasure to work with and brings a wealth of knowledge, kindness, and professionalism to every session. If you want someone in your corner who takes this seriously, he is your guy.

Authenticity in Hockey

There is a Forbes business quote I came across that stopped me in my tracks because it applies directly to hockey. The idea is simple: you have to be your authentic self. Not who you think coaches want to see. Not a copy of your favorite NHL player. You.

Every player who comes through our programs is different. Different size, different skating style, different hockey IQ, and they all develop on their own timeline. Some of you are shooters. Some of you are danglers, passers, physical players, guys who read the ice and make everyone around them better. None of those roles are less valuable than the others. The game needs all of them.

Finding Your Niche

Part of what we do here is figure out YOUR authentic niche in the game. What are you going to bring to the table better than your peers? That is the question. Once we identify that strength, we build on it. We help you own it. And at the same time, we bring the weaker parts of your game up so they stop costing you.

A player who knows his role and plays it with confidence is far more valuable than a player who tries to do everything and masters nothing. We see that mistake constantly at the youth level. Kids get told to be more like someone else instead of being coached to be a better version of themselves. That is backwards.

Never Count Anyone Out

One thing I believe with everything I have: never count anyone out. Ever. Players develop at different ages. A kid who looks average at thirteen can be a completely different player at sixteen if he puts the work in. Late bloomers are real. Growth spurts change everything, physically and mentally.

The only players I count out are the ones who choose to quit. That is a choice, and it is the only thing that truly ends a hockey career. Everything else, size, skill, speed, those things can be developed if the will is there.

International Coaching Staff

Coach Ondra is a professional youth skill development coach based in Prague. He will be joining us at our Boston University Camp alongside coaches from Sweden and Finland. Bringing in coaches from different hockey cultures is intentional. European players are trained differently, and that perspective challenges our players in ways that make them better. When you skate with coaches who have developed players across multiple countries and systems, you pick up things you simply cannot get anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Pro Ambitions Hockey different from other youth hockey camps?

We are not running a camp to fill ice time. Every player who comes through our programs gets evaluated as an individual. We look at your strengths, your weaknesses, your skating mechanics, and your hockey sense, and we build from there. Our coaches are former professional players and experienced development coaches, not just warm bodies on the ice. The international perspective we bring in from coaches trained in Europe adds another layer that most programs in North America do not offer.

How do I know if my player is ready to work with Coach Henry?

If your player is serious about getting better, they are ready. It does not matter what level they are at right now. Coach Henry works with players across different ages and skill levels. What he is looking for is coachability and a real desire to improve. Email us at info@proambitions.com and let us have a conversation about where your player is and where they want to go.

What does it mean to find your authentic niche in hockey?

It means figuring out what you do better than the players around you and leaning into it. Not every player is a goal scorer. Not every player is a power forward. Some players make their teammates better. Some players kill penalties. Some players are built to be shut-down defenders. When a young player understands their role and owns it, their confidence goes up and their game goes up with it. That is what we help players find.

My player develops slower than others their age. Should I be worried?

No. Development is not linear and it is not the same for everyone. Some players peak early and plateau. Others look average for years and then put it all together. The players who keep working, keep skating, and keep competing give themselves the chance to see what they are actually capable of. The ones who stop do not. Stay in it.
